Ballater is a regular day trip for us from Aberdeen but this festive season we found ourselves free to enjoy a few days. We booked the Balmoral Arms after seeing it online and had a wonderful stay. Days spent exploring the countryside, evenings spent in the restaurant and lounge playing board games and crocheting in front of blazing fires. Staff very attentive and obliging. Room spacious and stocked with all your essentials. Will happily come back.

If I could give this accommodation 6 stars I would. Such a beautiful atmosphere. Our room was amazing, food was sensational and the open fire place in the sitting room was just perfect. The staff were super super nice and helpful. We stayed 2 nights but wish now we had stayed longer. Easy driver to Balmoral Castle, and Braemer Castle. Just personifies Scottish hospitality.

A Masterclass in Highland Hospitality: Winter at the Balmoral Arms Our recent overnight stay at the Balmoral Arms in Ballater coincided with a period of heavy snow, transforming the village into a picturesque winter landscape. While the weather outside was formidable, the experience within the hotel was one of unparalleled warmth and comfort. Atmosphere & Aesthetics The interior decor strikes a sophisticated balance between traditional Scottish heritage and contemporary comfort. On a freezing winter’s night, the hotel’s open log fires were more than just a feature; they were the heart of the experience. The crackle of a real fire provided a magnificent backdrop to both our evening arrival and our morning departure, creating a sanctuary from the elements. Culinary Excellence Breakfast at the Balmoral Arms is an occasion in itself. I opted for the Eggs Balmoral, an inspired Scottish interpretation of the classic Eggs Benedict. The substitution of rich, savory haggis for the traditional ham was an exceptional touch, perfectly poached and served with a precision that reflects the high standards of the kitchen. Exceptional Service What truly sets this establishment apart, however, is the caliber of its team. The staff were exemplary throughout our stay, demonstrating a proactive and professional approach to guest care. In particular, the young lady on reception deserves significant praise for her poise and helpfulness; she ensured our check-in and stay were seamless despite the logistical challenges posed by the heavy snowfall. Final Verdict The Balmoral Arms offers a refined yet deeply cozy retreat. It is a testament to the management that even in the height of a Highland winter, the service remains impeccable and the environment remains a true home away from home.

My partner and I went here for a night as part of an itison voucher that I gifted him for his birthday. It was such a lovely night spent playing board games with some drinks and a crackling fire in the background. So relaxing. The hotel is beautiful, the room was cosy and they were very attentive. We chose to eat in the hotel for our evening meal and it was delicious. We even had our dog with us and she was well looked after too, there was always someone with a treat in their pocket for her and her little goodie bag which was in the room for her was a lovely touch. We would 100% go back.

Not visited since it was deeside inn. What a lovely upgrade it's had in all areas. Allocated room small but clean, welcoming. Fantastic complimentary tea tray. Freindly helpful staff. Bar had severe lack of drinks available on a Thursday? Lager etc. wines on menu in restaurant missing also. Food excellent, well done chef and team. Look forward to return visit. Optional service charge at finalising bill. We had already left tips so was kindly removed. Reception excellent regards

This is a lovely hotel in the heart of Ballater. The staff are very attentive, and the bar area was a delight. Breakfast was superb - cooked to order. We didn't eat in the main restaurant as we were attending a family wedding on the Mar Lodge Estate. Our room was very comfortable. Highly recommended.

Room was a bit small and noise from hose outside window. Towels weren't replaced. Not enough milk left for tea. Breakfast was lukewarm link sausage was awful eggs were sunny side up. Scrambled egg was awful. Not enough fruit out. Meal at night was nice vegetables were just a little more than all dante. Overpriced for there drinks. Place needed a good dust down.
